Updates!
May 30, 2008 on 8:14 pm | In Uncategorized | No CommentsHowdy folks,
We’re making a number of changes around the Film Board as I’m sure many of you have noticed. Most of the latest ones are related to the edit suite. Here’s a listing of some of them:
- Unfortunately the DV Deck is down again. We’re looking to purchase new ones as we gear up for the move, but we’re working to get ours fixed.
- Final Cut Pro now captures more than 5 minutes. Remember that capturing more than about five minutes is not good resource management. You can setup a quick Batch Capture to capture from say 00:00:00;10 to 00:05:00;01, then from 00:05:00;01 to 00:10:00;00 and so on. Remember to make the next in-point 1 frame later.
- Unfortunately, the cure can be worse than the illness, as in this case. Final Cut Pro may work but LiveType files can no longer be imported into Final Cut Pro and if you would like to use Compressor, you have to go your home folder>Library>Preferences and delete “com.apple.compressor.Compresso
r.plist” by right-clicking and Move to Trash. Start up Compressor and that should fix it. Let us know if it does not.
- New two-button mice. These mice also have side-to-side scrolling to blast through your long timelines. Amazingly configurable in System Preferences (in the Dock or under the Apple menu at the top) and Microsoft Mouse. Click Add and select Final Cut Pro HD. I’d also suggest increasing the Horizontal Scrolling speed. I’ve got my middle click to zoom into the timeline and the button on the side to be zoom out.
- The firewire jacks have been fixed. We’re also going to be blocking all ports on those computers and making some extension cords available next to monitors for you to plug your equipment into. USB and Firewire 400 6-pin is to be expected.
General Film Board News:
- New interim website, of course. Reservation calendar and equipment request page can now be found on one page.
- Assorted Light Kit has been created. It contains a 1KW, 600W and a 300W light.
- General cleaning up and tightening up of procedures. We’ve been hard at work cleaning up and throwing out a lot of stuff to become a leaner, meaner Film Board. Much kudos go to our new Technical Coordinator, Dagny Thompson, for spearheading this project.
- We’ve moving soon! Keep an eye out for more information on that.

It is accessible by clicking on the giant ugly red link on the loan form, or clicking here. Please let me know what you think in the comments section of the loan form, or in the comments here.
