Grants

A few Grants  are available for Winter, 2012. Grant applicants should follow the instructions as outlined in Small Production Grants for Individual Members, below. The deadline to apply is February 29, 2012.

OUR GRANT SYSTEM

Our GRANT system supports two separate streams: small Production Grants for individual members and requests to produce The New Filmmakers Project, a larger annual group project.

1. Small Production Grants for Individual Members:

Film Board members are eligible for up to $250 in financial support for their productions. NOTE: the less you ask for the more likely you are to receive it. Only strong applications which justify the need for funds will be eligible for the $250 maximum. IOW, only request what you truly need.

To apply for a grant prepare the following and send it to rick.palidwor@utoronto.ca before the deadline. Early applications encouraged.

- Description of the project (e.g. genre, approach, reason you want to work on this particular project).

- Level of experience (past productions, training etc). If you have no experience don’t be discouraged. We like to support new filmmakers.

- Outline of how the money will be spent (e.g. equipment rental, paid professional help, transportation). NOTE: grant money cannot be used for capital purchases (e.g. equipment or software purchases).

We will try and notify you of a decision regarding your application within about a week of the deadline.

NOTE: If you receive a grant you will spend the money and then will be reimbursed by cheque after the presentation of valid receipts. If you are using the money to make a single purchase from one supplier and cannot afford to spend the money up front, talk to Rick Palidwor about the possibilities of up-front help from the Film Board.

The deadline to redeem a grant is April 15, 2012.

2. New Filmmakers Project (NFP)

The NFP is an annual group project led by one or more experienced Film Board members who act as mentors to the volunteer crew. The applicant will be designated as the Producer of the project and cannot occupy more than 1 senior creative role (writer, director). In other words, the applicant can direct only if the script was authored by another Film Board member; the applicant can be the script writer only if another Film Board member directs. Applications can be submitted by small teams of Film Board members who plan to perform all the senior creative roles under the condition that the entire production crew is comprised of Film Board members.

To apply for the New Filmmakers Project prepare the following and send it to
rick.palidwor@utoronto.ca before the deadline. Early applications
encouraged.

- Detailed project description, including script if proposing a dramatic narrative film. For documentaries a detailed outline and background of the subject and planned approach.

- Detailed production plan and schedule.

- Detailed budget to a maximum of $1000. Applications with smaller budgets stand a better change of being approved.

- Detailed description of production experience of all applicants.

- Detailed outline of how the applicant(s) plan to involve Film Board members in the production (e.g. calls for participants, production meetings, roles available for volunteers etc)
