Membership FAQ
MISSION STATEMENT
The Hart House Film Board exists to provide assistance to film and video artists who are students at the University of Toronto or senior members of Hart House.
MEMBERSHIP
Film Board membership is open to all members of Hart House for $25/year, at the Porter’s Desk. All full-fee-paying U of T students are members of Hart House.
Non-students must first apply for a Clubs and Committees membership at $170/year. For information on obtaining a Clubs and Committees membership please contact Membership Services.
CERTIFICATION TUTORIALS
Certification Tutorials are MANDATORY for new members who wish to use the advanced video, audio, and lighting equipment (listed here). To sign up, you can send an email to equipment@hhfilmboard.com or come in person to sign up on the wall next to our doors.
Members who cannot attend the announced dates can book private tutorials at the cost of $20 per tutorial (usually 2 hours). Send an email to equipment@hhfilmboard.com to arrange a time.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
The Film Board Executive collectively oversees the various functions of the Film Board. The Executive is comprised entirely of members and meets at 6:00 p.m. on the first working Wednesday in May, July, September, November, January and March. All Film Board members are encouraged to get involved in the Executive. Information about portfolios and vacancies can be obtained from Hart House Staff Advisor Rick Palidwor. Meeting rooms are posted at the Porter’s Desk. You can find a list of the current Executive Committee here.
GRANTS
The Film Board awards small grants to it’s members three times a year. For more information go here.
EQUIPMENT CURATORS
The Technical Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the Film Board?s equipment and facilities, administering loans and enforcing Film Board policies. The Technical Coordinator is assisted by the Curators. To contact the Curators, visit them during their regular office hours (right-hand column on each page) or leave a message on the office phone: 416-946-8180. For information on the equipment go here.
SHOOTING AT HART HOUSE
The Hart House generously allows Film Board members to book spaces to shoot in. To book a space, please email at least two weeks in advance to the equipment on the contact page.
WORKSHOPS
Workshop schedules start in Fall and Winter of each year. The Fall schedule is here.
FARM PROJECT
Every summer a group of Film Board members spend a weekend at Hart House farm on a movie-making adventure. The 2009 Farm Project will take place June 5-7. For information go here.
NEW FILMMAKERS PROJECT
An annual collective project. This year it is being run by Pollux Steif and David Eng. The first information will be held on September 29 at 5:30pm. For more information go here.
SCREENINGS
The Film Board sponsors at least two screenings of member work a year. The next two screenings are September 24 and March 14, 2009. For more information go to the Screenings Page.
